1. Q. Converting WAVE audio for use with CDR products.
A. The latest update of the SoxWIN utility enables it to support PCM
format of WAV file, for any .wav file that is not PCM format, you should use "Sound Recorder" ( in Windows 95 ) to change it to the PCM format. Then translate it to .cdr file.
To change a PCM
.wav file to .cdr file, the .wav file format also should be stereo. So if a .wav file is not stereo recorded, first please use the SoxWIN utility to convert it to stereo, then translate it to .cdr file.
For modifying and editing .wav files, the shareware utilities GoldWave (www.goldwave.com) and CoolEdit (www.syntrillium.com) are inexpensive and easy to use. These can also be used in instances where "Sound Recorder" could not convert the file because
it contained a format it did not understand. (Creative Digital Research does NOT offer audio editing technical support)
2. Q: Do you support MY CD Recorder ?
A. Click on the following links for lists of Supported Recorders: HyCD Play&Record
HyCD Publisher for PC HyCD Publisher for Unix
3. Q: Which SCSI controllers do you support?
Adaptec SCSI Adapters Advansys SCSI Adapters
4. Q: Will HyCD Publisher preserve my data formats?
A: HyCD format preserves all the data in the Native
environment. All data are shared not duplicated. These include the following data types:
PC:
File Names in 8.3 format Permissions in Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0
Long File Names; Up to 64 Unicode Characters.
Macintosh:
Resource Fork Data Fork Finder information Icon and Icon position Full file names including unprintable characters
UNIX:
Full long file names Unlimited directory depth Full file and directory permissions Special files, i.e. block, character, FIFO, PIPE device files
5. Q: What is a "data under run" error ?
It means that your computer is not able to get data to the CD
recorder at a fast enough rate to produce the CD.
A: Make sure that you do not have too many devices on your SCSI chain. Scanners and SCSI 3 hard disks on a chain with your CD recorder will produce this
type of error. They should be on their own SCSI controller card.
6. Q: What causes an "open device error" error under Windows 95?
A: Make sure you have the latest SCSI
device drivers and latest firmware from your CD recorder manufacture. Drivers can be obtained from the manufacturers' world wide web sites.
7. Q: During your registration process I keep getting a message that says the software I'm
installing is "out of date".
A: This is just a reminder that newer versions of our software may be available. Please refer to the PC Publisher Download page.
8. Q: I would like to create a CD that preserves long file names. When I use the default options the long file names
from Windows 95 are turned into short MSDOS file names when I read the CD from the Windows NT 3.51 file manager. What can I do to solve this?
A: Although Windows NT 3.51 supports long file names, its
CD-ROM reader device driver can only read back 8.3 file names. You may change your file names to 8.3 or you can have HyCD Publisher convert them automatically.
NT 4.0 supports long file names and
will be able to read HyCD that contains long file names.
9. Q: Will all operating systems be able to view ALL files on a Multisession CD?
A: Yes.
10. Q: How does HyCD Publisher handle hidden files?
A: Hidden files are transferred to the CD, however they are made visible.
11. Q: Why won't my 4x CD recorder burn a CD in the 4x speed?
A: The speed at which your recorder will produce a
disk is directly related to the speed of your computer and the other devices your using to produce the disk. If you're doing a CD to CD copy,
for instance, the CD reader should as a rule be at least twice as fast as your recorder.
12. Q: Does it matter that I have multiple applications running while I'm using CDR Publisher?
A: Running multiple applications will take up valuable CPU bandwidth and as such should not be used when you are recording CD's. Screensavers and anti-virus programs as well as software that supports
Drive Letter Access should be TURNED OFF before CD recording is started.
13. Q. HyCD can't find a supported recorder.
A. Make sure your recorder is connected properly to your
computer and turned on, also make sure your are using a version of the HyCD software that supports your specific recorder. Lists of supported recorders can be found on our website at www.hycd.com or by following the
links in Question #2 of this FAQ.
14. Q. When using a Shuttle cable I cannot see my printer
A.
Some printers don't work with well with the Shuttle cable, and you may have one of them, if you need to print try disconnecting the CD Recorder, the Shuttle cable seems to function best with only one device connected to it.
15. Q. The CD that I just recorded cannot be seen in my CD reader.
A.
First check to see if there is a phase change on the recordable side of the disc, this is a light color change starting near the inside ring of the CD-R and moving outward. If there is no change its likely that you were using either using the VIRTUAL WRITE MODE in HyCD Publisher (see hardware configuration window) or in the TEST ONLY MODE in the HyCD Suite.
If there appears to be something written to the disc, and you were writing music track files, you did not CLOSE the session, this disc will only be readable in your recorder and not a standard reader.
If you are using CD/RW media, please be aware that these discs are only readable in MULTIREAD CD readers, most currently shipping CD readers are not MULTIREAD capable.
CD Recorders are MULTIREAD capable.
